Mr. Salesio Thuranira, a human activists who first exposed the swindling of elderly patients through the National Health Insurace Fund (NHIF), claims that he has been receiving calls threatening his life.

Mr. Thuranira claims that these threats came three days after the rip-off scheme was exposed by NTV on Sunday. He points out that his wife had received a strange call from an unidentified woman who declared war on them saying she will seek justice against them. The whistleblower had then reported this matter to the police at Nkubu Police Station and received an OB number 24/21/06/2023. Mr. Salesio is now calling upon the government to protect him.

This heist was exposed by NTV months after Mr. Thuranira blew the whistle. Salesio had reported about this scheme last year but no action was taken by the DCI. In April this year, he petitioned his case to the Members of County Assembly in Meru and asked them to investigate the swindling of the elderly by various hospitals. He claimed that these hospitals pretend to treat elderly patiets with arthritis through surgery and uknown expensive injections.

Following this discovery, the Health CS Nakhumicha S. Wafula ordered closure of a few hospitals. These hospitals include; Afya Bora Hospital Annex in Mwea, Jekim Hospital in Nkuu, St. Peter's Hospial in Kinoo as well as Joy Nursing and Maternity Eastleigh. Many patients and families have suffered the effects of this closure, as they struggle to find treatment elsewhere.
